As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Milton Keynes, you will provide expert clinical care to patients with a range of complex psychiatric conditions. You will take a lead role in diagnosis, treatment planning, and the delivery of therapeutic interventions. Key Responsibilities for the Consultant Psychiatrist Job in Milton Keynes
- Lead the delivery of high-quality psychiatric care for patients with mental health disorders.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, and risk evaluations.
- Develop and oversee effective treatment plans in collaboration with MDTs.
- Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications according to NICE guidelines.
- Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior doctors, nurses, and psychologists.
- Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, case reviews, and ward rounds.
- Engage in service development, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Liaise with families, carers, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care.
- Support compliance with legal and ethical standards, including the Mental Health Act.
- Participate in teaching, training, and research activities within the organisation.
Requirements for the Consultant Psychiatrist Job in Milton Keynes
- Full GMC registration with a license to practise.
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry (or eligibility within 6 months).
- CCT or equivalent in Psychiatry.
- Substantial experience in working with patients with complex mental health needs.
- Strong leadership, clinical decision-making, and communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the Mental Health Act, safeguarding procedures, and national clinical guidelines.
- Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous service improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification in psychiatry.
- Experience in inpatient, community, or crisis mental health services.
- Experience in leading MDTs and supervising junior medical staff.
- Training or interest in subspecialties such as forensic psychiatry, addiction, or neurodevelopmental conditions is desirable.
- A track record of research, teaching, or published work is advantageous.
